Can I Pay Without a Credit Card?

Madeline Ross·02 Jun 2026

Yes. If you'd prefer not to pay by credit card, Discover New Zealand can provide details for a direct bank transfer to our New Zealand or Australian bank account. Payments made by bank transfer must be in New Zealand dollars, and any bank fees are the responsibility of the traveller.

While many travellers choose to pay by credit card, it's not the only payment option available.

If you'd prefer to pay by direct bank transfer, contact your Discover New Zealand travel specialist and we'll provide the information required to make payment.

Can I pay by bank transfer?

Yes.

Direct bank transfers can be made to our New Zealand or Australian bank account.

Please note:

  • Payments must be made in New Zealand dollars (NZD)
  • Any bank transfer fees are your responsibility
  • International transfers can take several business days to arrive
  • We cannot confirm your booking until the required deposit has been received

If you're making an international payment, we recommend arranging the transfer as early as possible to avoid delays.

How long do international bank transfers take?

Transfer times vary depending on your bank and country of residence.

In some cases, international transfers can take up to 10 days to be received and processed.

If you're booking close to your travel date, a credit card payment is often the quickest way to secure your arrangements.

Do I need a credit card while travelling in New Zealand?

We strongly recommend carrying a credit card or debit card while travelling in New Zealand.

Even if you've prepaid most of your holiday, some accommodation providers and rental car companies may request a card when you check in or collect your vehicle.

This is commonly used to cover incidental expenses such as:

  • Hotel room service
  • Restaurant charges billed to your room
  • Mini-bar purchases
  • Damage deposits
  • Rental vehicle security holds

Can I use a debit card instead?

In many cases, yes.

Visa and Mastercard debit cards are widely accepted throughout New Zealand and may be suitable for many travel-related purchases.

Before travelling, it's worth checking with your accommodation provider or rental car company if you plan to use a debit card instead of a credit card, as requirements can vary.
