Trip overview

A great itinerary for Lord of the Rings and Hobbiton fans. Follow the path of legends from the North Island’s emerald heart to the South’s glacial crown. This curated journey begins in Auckland, leading you straight into the charm of Hobbiton and the mystical mists of Rotorua.

After a flight to the South Island, the scale of the landscape shifts. Stand beneath the towering peaks of Aoraki/Mt Cook, then venture into the wilderness of Queenstown and Glenorchy to see the film locations of Isengard and Lothlórien first-hand. After travelling through the Franz Josef, you’ll board the TranzAlpine train. This iconic rail crossing bridges the gap between the wild West Coast and the Canterbury Plains, offering a final, breathtaking look at the Southern Alps.
