Haast River Jet Boat Safari

A 90 minute return trip showcases unique characteristics within the ancient glacier formed Haast River Valley, while the safari boat design ensures your warmth and comfort.

In complete contrast to many jet boating activities focusing on speed and exhilaration, this is a leisurely, scenic and informative trip where jet boat design is utilised as New Zealand inventor Bill Hamilton originally intended - to explore the back country.
Passengers cruise up the river, enjoying a friendly & informative commentary from one of the local highly experienced Safari guides. Crossing the major Alpine fault line, and passing through areas of sub-tropical rainforest and ancient stands of kahikatea provide fascinating natural history facts, and there is an opportunity to step out of the boat at a fresh water spring and sample pure NZ. As well as interpreting the outstanding natural features of the area, your guide has many stories of community survival in this rugged landscape that is truly one of New Zealands last frontiers. Hear of the challenges faced by early settlers before easy access to the outside world became possible when the Haast Pass opened. Kiwi ingenuity was a necessity for folk living in this remote area, and captivating stories such as those of the venison recovery industry in its early days reflect this.
While there is terrific scenic value in good weather, during rain mist shrouds the forest, waterfalls are flowing and light reflects multiple shades of green in the native bush backdrop.
