Turoa, on the south-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu, holds the title of Australasia's longest vertical drop and New Zealand's highest lift.
With an excellent varierty of terrain, from open runs to gullies and cliffs, Turoa is a favourite of many skiers and boarders. In 2007 Turoa unveiled a new high-speed, 6 person chairlift with the biggest uphill capacity in Australasia, opening up even more terrain. To compliment this the ski area's snowmaking capacity has been trebled and a new cafe and retail complex has been built.
Turoa's learner area, Alpine Meadow, is situated separately to the main ski area, so beginners can learn in a safe environment, while those stronger skiers and boarders will find a huge variety of terrain to suit - including 2 lift-accessed off-piste areas.
